A Cloud Kingdom adventure

The Night the Sky Forgot to Sleep

A cloud-fox, a sleepy star, and a whole sky waiting to drift off.

Ages 4–912 illustrated spreads32-page hardcoverEvery page written and drawn

Twelve illustrated spreads inside a 32-page hardcover — 17 screens to turn in the reader, the first half of them free.

We keep the photograph of your child, so we can draw them again. Read the first half of your book free. Hardcover $40.00 plus shipping and tax. It is a house demo book about a child we invented, because no real child’s book ever appears on a public page. It is otherwise the same reader, the same layout engine and the same illustrations a customer gets.

Look inside

A spread from the middle of the book.

Not a marketing composite. The real words and the real illustration of one page of 李思远’s copy, drawn by the engine that feeds the reader and the printing press.

A child in the wide Star-Meadow of sleepy stars; the second bell glowing low

The middle of the night

Higher into the quiet

The first bell’s glow showed the way higher, and the cloud-path climbed on out to the Star-Meadow.

李思远 traced one slow, sleepy path through the Star-Meadow, gathering a whole field of little stars’ sleepiness up to the bell — all of them tucked in together. The second bell woke, and this time the way of it was plain: soft and slow and along with it, never at it.

What personalised means here

Your child is drawn, not named.

Your child is drawn, not named. One photograph becomes a character sheet — an original illustration of your child in our house style — and every picture in the book is drawn from that sheet, so it is the same child on every page. We keep the photograph, privately, so the next book can be drawn from it too.

The gallery further down is the check on that sentence: every plate in it is from one demo book about one invented child, and it is the same child in all of them.

The cast

Who your child meets in Cloud Kingdom.

Your child is the hero and never one of the cast, which is why the book can be about your child without pretending they are a fox.

  • Nimbus the cloud-fox

    calm, cuddly, half-asleep and cosy

    “Let's float a little slower.”

  • Twinkle the star-sprite

    dreamy, gentle, sleepy-sparkly

    “Make a wish on me.”

  • dream-whale

    Lull

    vast, unhurried, deeply kind

    “I like a gentle traveller.”

Shipping and delivery, before you decide

Order today, arrives:

Ground, tracked
Thu, Oct 29 – Wed, Nov 4
6–10 business days: printing, then transit. The default. Tracked door to door.
Expedited, tracked
Wed, Oct 28 – Mon, Nov 2
5–8 business days: printing, then transit. Offered wherever the carrier reaches, priced at cost, with its own gift-by date.

Shipping is quoted live from the printer for your address and passed on at exactly their price — no markup, ever. The carrier, the amount, the tax and the delivery dates are all on screen before you enter a card.

Buying for a birthday? Count back from the day of the party in working days, not calendar days: 10 business days for the tracked ground service and 8 for expedited, worst case. Order by then and it arrives with days in hand; both dates are on screen again at checkout for the address you enter.

The one number not on this page is the shipping itself. We will not print a figure we would have to guess at: it is quoted from the printer for your address, shown in full with the tax and the total before anything is irreversible, and you can leave at that screen.

Reprint or refund, thirty days after it arrives.

For two hours after you order, cancel yourself in one click for a full refund — nothing has been printed yet. After that the book is manufactured, and the guarantee still holds: if what arrives is damaged, mis-bound or simply not the book you approved, we reprint it or refund it for thirty days from the day it lands.

Start Cloud Kingdom with your child, read the finished book for nothing, and think about the hardcover afterwards.
